Magicline Yarn Review with FREE Bandana/Kerchief pattern

anchor magicline yarn

Details – discontinued

Magicline by Anchor is a 10ply cotton yarn made in Italy for ‘Coats’.

  • The Magicline comes in 50g balls with 70m per ball.
  • A 4mm crochet hook is recommended or 4.5mm knitting needles.
  • As per the label, the gauge for crochet  – 10″ x 10″ equals  8 rows by 18 stitches. The knit gauge is 32 rows by 18 stitches. The extreme difference in rows sounds weird to me, but I’m not much of a knitter, so what would I know 😝.
  • The label recommends a warm wash, it can be ironed and dry cleaned. Do not tumble dry.
  • The weight of the Magicline is not marked on the label, but the website places it is a 10 ply and I would as well.
  • The website says it is not mercerised but the label says it is..go figure. Having said that, I don’t see much of a sheen to it.

My Observations

I had just enough of the Magicline Cotton by Anchor to crochet 1 ladies head kerchief with a 4mm hook.

  • It pulled nice and easy from the centre of the ball.
  • The Magicline did split quite a bit, but I have to say I can get over that, because it crochets up so nicely, I can forgive the splitting.
  • The quality looks and feels so nice and the colour I purchased looks beautiful crocheted, and once done I could see the sheen more characteristic of a mercerised cotton.

Washing

Because of the beads on the kerchief, I washed the Magicline by Anchor on a gentle cycle in cold water (including a lower than usual spin cycle)

  • The sheen seemed to dull a little after washing, but not so much that it would affect my decision to repurchase. The fact that I dried it out in the sun may have influenced the reduced sheen.
  • If you make the Magicline by Anchor into garments I think it would probably benefit with ironing.
  • It seemed reasonably soft after the wash and it has a nice drape. Not super soft, but not stiff either. I was very happy with this choice for the kerchief.

In Summary

  • I love the Magicline Cotton yarn from Anchor, and I am very tempted to buy the rest of the colours in case it is in fact discontinued!! I need a coupon code!! 😱
  • I think it would make beautiful clothing items or accessories and lovely homewares as well.
  • Even though it would be suitable for dish/wash cloths, I feel like it would be a waste of beautiful yarn, unless the cloths were just for show.
  • I would definitely dry it naturally and probably out of the sun, to look after the finish of the yarn.
