Medium to large size drawstring over the shoulder tote bag (34cm high x 27cm wide)

Mini Crossbody Bag Crochet Pattern

Yarn: any worsted weight cotton or cotton blend yarn. I have used Ice Yarns Pure Cotton and Ice Yarns Mona Lisa.

This pattern is simple enough to change to a different weight yarn.

Hook: 4.25 mm

Stitches used:

  • (ch) chain
  • (sc) single crochet
  • (hdc) half double crochet
  • (sl st) slip stitch

Pattern Instructions:

Chain 23

Row 1 – 77

sc in 2nd ch from the hook until the end of the row. ch1 and turn. (22sc)

Row 2 – 77

sc all the way across. ch1 and turn

Row 78

sc11, ch20, sc11 (this makes the button loop)

You will now have a long rectangle that will be folded in half to make your bag.

Strap

  • ch 180 or whatever number you like depending on how long you would like your strap.
  • sc back along the chain. Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew together that side of the bag. 
  • Attach the other end of the strap to the other side of the bag and sew down that side of the bag. Fasten off and weave in ends.
  • Line up the button on the front of the bag with the loop at the back and attach.

Button A

  • ch2, 7sc in 2nd ch from the hook. Do not join. 7 sc made.
  • 2 hdc in each st around. Join with ss in first hdc. Leaving long end, fasten off.
  • Weave end through stitches of last round. Pull tightly to close opening.
  • Flatten and sew button on.

Button B

  • ch 4 and ss to make a ring.
  • 6sc into ring and join with ss.
  • ch1, 2sc into each sc. ss together.
  • ch1, sc into each sc. ss together.
  • decrease – sc 2 together 6 times. ss together.
  • Fasten off and pull together. Sew on.

Crochet Drawstring Tote Bag Pattern

Yarn: Flinders Cotton 8ply or any other 8ply cotton or cotton blend yarn.

Hook: 4 mm

Stitches used:

  • (ch) chain
  • (sc) single crochet
  • (dc) double crochet
  • (ccst) criss cross stitch
  • (fpdc) front post double crochet
  • (sl st) slip stitch

Pattern Instructions:

Ch2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

Row 1

Magic circle. Ch2 then 12 dc in loop 12st

Row 2

Ch 2. 2dc in each stitch around. 24st

Row 3

ch 2, dc in same st,  * 2dc in next st then 1dc. Repeat from * 36st

Row 4

Ch2, dc in same st, 1dc in next st,*2dc in next st then 1dc in next 2st. Repeat from* 48st

Row 5

Ch2, dc in same st, 1dc in next 2st, *2dc in next st then 1dc in next 3st . Repeat from* 60st

Row 6

Ch2, dc in same st, 1dc in next 3st, *2dc in next st then 1dc in next 4st. Repeat from* 72st

Row 7

Ch2 ,dc in same st, 1dc in next 4st, *2dc in next st then 1dc in next 5st. Repeat from* 84st

Row 8

Ch2 ,continue to crochet in the blo for this row

dc in same st, 1dc in next 5st, *2dc in next st then 1dc in next 6st. Repeat from* 96st

Row 9

Ch2, then fpdc around the dc below from below row, * 2 ccst then fpdc around the next dc from below row. Continue from * around, ending with a fpdc on the last dc from the below row. Ss to top of first fpdc. (38ccst, 20fpdc)

Row 10-40

If you wish to have 2 colours, you may change colours at row 24 (same as the bag pictured) or wherever seems good to you.

Ch2, then fpdc around the fpdc below, * 2 ccst over the top of the below ccst, then fpdc around the next fpdc from below row. Continue from * around, ending with a fpdc on the last fpdc from the below row. Ss to top of first fpdc.

Edging

Ch2 and fpdc around the fpdc below, *5dc in the gap between ccst’s, then fpdc around the next fpdc. Repeat from * around.

End with fpdc and ss to first fpdc.

Drawstring Cord

Make a cord to your liking to the desired length. I used Bella Coco’s basic cord directions.

Shoulder Strap

Make another cord the desired length and attach to the top of your bag. I used the same basic cord, but this time I used two strands of yarn held together to get a heavier cord.

Weave in all ends
