Mug Rugs
If you’re looking for a bit more of a modern take on the traditional coaster, these mug rugs are the way to go. There is a bit more time involved with the fringing , but the end result is definitely worth it.
The original pattern uses two solid colours, but I love the result with Knitpicks Dishie Multi variety.
These crochet coasters, mug rugs have been crocheted using a mix of the following stitches and have had fringing added after completion.
- (ch) chain
- (sc) single crochet
- (sp st) spike stitch

Round Coasters
These round crochet coasters are a little more traditional and crochet up super quick. You’ll have a couple of sets for gifts before you know it!
The round coasters are super simple and have been crocheted using a mix of the following stitches:
- (ch) chain
- (sc) single crochet
- (dc) double crochet
- (ss) slip stitch
The yarn I have used is 4 Seasons Brighton Ombre(click the link for my thoughts) which may or may not still be available at Spotlight Stores.

Round Drink Coasters
Yarn: 8ply cotton or cotton blend yarn
Hook: 4mm/4.25mm
General Instructions
Ch1 and ch2 at beginning of rows do not count as a stitch. Slip stitch to join at the end of each row.
Pattern Instructions
Round 1
Ch 3. 8dc into 3rd ch from the hook. ss to top of first st (8st)
Round 2
Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, ss to join. (16)
Round 3
Ch2, 2dc in same st. *1 dc in next st, 2dc in next st.
repeat from * around. Ss to join (24st)
Round 4
Ch1, 2sc in same st, *sc in next 2st, 2sc in next stitch. Repeat
from * around. Ss to join. (32st)
Round 5
Ch2, 2dc in same st. *1 dc in next 3st, 2dc in next st.
repeat from * around. Ss to join (40st)
Round 6
Ch1, 2sc in same st, *sc in next 4st, 2sc in next stitch. Repeat from * around. Ss to join. (48st)
Round 7
*Ch5, skip 2st and ss to next st. Repeat around and ss to beginning ch.
Finish off and weave in ends.
